Cantata for baritone, mixed chorus, wind, percussion and piano on poems by Georg Trakl. The texts are set in the original German. The cantata is in two movements. The short first movement sets the poem 'Untergang', the second sets all three of the 'Abendland' poems. All four poems, written in 1914, are directly or indirectly concerned with Trakl's sense of the destruction of Europe and its culture. |
